Is it weird not to want a baby shower?

I just never liked baby showers. I don’t enjoy attending or potentially having one. We don’t need the gifts because we are planning to buy everything ourselves. 
I wouldn't mind having a gathering with close family and friends but I don’t want it to be a whole ordeal. My man’s family likes to take over everything and make it bigger than it has to be. Also, some of his family members might be upset they aren’t invited, therefore, I was thinking of not having one at all. To avoid all the unnecessary drama. Maybe limiting it to Immediate family only. 
I would appreciate your guy's opinion. This will be my first baby and everything is new.

girl no. your life, your choices and soon you will realize that everyone has an opinion when there’s a new baby!!! time it out and focus on the happiness of yourself, your baby and your partner, first. 
if they genuinely care they will understand. i didn’t have a baby shower for either of my two kids but ppl still stopped by on their own accord & brought gifts.

Families like to have reasons to be excited and get together. If people pressure you, and you're up for it. Maybe a BBQ celebration, no presents necessary or maybe say you'll do a party when the baby comes so they can meet him/her 🤷‍♀️
People might get you things anyways though. They just get so excited. But your choice and it's not a big deal to say no shower.

Ive got three kids and have never had one. I really REALLY don’t mind. Even if I had people to invite, which i don’t, lol, I cloth diaper, so don’t need disposables, and prefer a more minimalist approach to raising a baby anyway. Have barely had to buy anything since I had my first. 🤷‍♀️

If you don't want one and have the means to get everything for baby yourselves, don't have one.
I unfortunately was surprised with baby showers by overly excited family. I was and still am the only one of my siblings with children. AND I was a favorite of a very dear aunt and she was kind of the boss lady for our family so whatever she wanted was done and she wanted me to have baby showers 😩. I'm a major introvert and so is my husband so all that attention was a nightmare. I was so stressed that after every shower (we ended up having 4 for my first and 3 for my second 💀) I would have signs of early labor. It wasn't a great experience but I understand that it was important for my family to celebrate my children coming into the family. I'm constantly torn on how I feel about it but if I could do it again I would opt for a smaller SINGLE celebration for each

No, it isn't weird. I have 3 kids and never had, nor wanted, a baby shower. I didn't feel comfortable being the center of attention and didn't feel comfortable with people buying things for my baby. I knew crib, swing, cloth diapers, etc that I wanted and I didn't want people buying things that I didn't want to use.
