Is he serious about me?

My bf (of a year and a half) says he loves me and wants to spend the rest of his life with me but I feel like he avoids my family and doesn’t really want to be close with them. 
My brother’s gf is begging to meet us and is super eager about having a family BBQ and my bf keeps making excuses not to come to them. He comes over my house all the time but I feel like he doesn’t really want that close bond with my family. I’m not super super close with them,… but I do want to have a nice relationship with them and have fun with them OCCASIONALLY. Not 24/7. It just seems like he wants to take me away and that’s it…..
Anything for his family i’d be there in a heartbeat….

Ask him why he’s reluctant to spend time with your family.

Maybe he isn’t ready to develop those bonds with your family. It takes time to feel comfortable. 
It took me a while to feel comfortable with my bf's family.

From what my boyfriend has told me at least about his mom, Id be super anxious about being around her but I wouldn’t avoid it if he asked. Maybe he feels uncomfortable about the idea? Just talk to him about it

He could have anxiety around new people. Sometimes meeting a group of people can be overwhelming. Because of my social anxiety, my boyfriend gradually introduced me. I met his friends first & then his parents & then finally his siblings. It helped! I did the same with him even though his anxiety is not as bad as mine.
