Is this worth it?

Regarding money.. is it helpful for anyone to actually calculate each paycheck and sort and take out percentage for things like 10% goes to groceries or 20% goes to saving etc. I've never really done that math before with my paychecks but I want to organize my finances and be smart about spending and saving, especially saving for my future. Right now my husband and I are practically living paycheck to paycheck but he is getting paid more soon and I'm getting a job so we'll have more to work with and I want to do it smart this time. Any tips??
