How do you get contacts??

I have a glasses prescription but I have no idea how to get contacts. I’ve tried googling it and it’s complicated. I thought I would have to go to the eye doctor and get a separate prescription that’s for contacts. But my cousin told me he got his contacts online just with his glasses prescription 🤔 but I’m wondering if that’s true or not cause I’m pretty sure his mom pays for it so maybe he thought when he got his eyes tested he didn’t know it was for contacts? Or is he actually right? Do you only need your glasses prescription? I’m asking on here before calling cause 1 they don’t pick up 2 I don’t wanna sound dumb :(
