Cold Sores

Is it true everyone has cold sores aka HSV - 1 aka herpes? My friend told me a huge percentage of the general population has it? And a lot of people don’t know they have it. Can you have the virus but never get cold sores? If you never get cold sores can you not spread it at all?

Why is this not talked about? I’m so confused!

Just found out I have it but have had a bf for 3+ years and have done oral throughout and never had a cold sore....he doesn’t have genital herpes. Do I just have the virus and can’t spread it if I don’t have an outbreak?

Just trying to see how normal or odd this is?
