Tongue piercing 🤪

I'm going tomorrow to have my tongue pierced. I'm super excited and have wanted it for a VERY long time, but im so afraid that it will effect my teeth. I have done so much research and I plan on getting a smaller bar and a plastic ball once it's healed of course but I heard that sometimes it doesn't matter? So please tell me your story! I have time to change my mind if I decide not to do it! I want to try to have it done then just keep an eye on it but im also afraid I won't notice it in time. Genetically my family doesn't have the best teeth so keeping mine healthy is SUPER important!
