Birth control question

Hi I’m new to birth control and I just wanna make sure I’ll be protected. I am on the birth control pill and have been for about 3 weeks now, I am on the 3rd day of the placebo pills (I think that’s what they are called). But yesterday I noticed some bleeding, and today I’m getting very large clots so I’m guessing it’s my period. If I stop bleeding, should I keep taking my placebo pills or start a new pack? I wanna make sure that I’ll be protected as soon as I start my next pack even if I am not bleeding or if I am.
