Expensive elaborate weddings?

What is your opinion on big expensive weddings IF the bride and groom are unable or unwilling to pay for it themselves? I’ve had an opinion on this for a while, and I think if you have money to throw around then have whatever kind of wedding you want… but if you are expecting someone else to pay then you should just stick to a city hall or backyard ceremony. I think an exception would be if whichever party is paying has explicitly told you the budget before and is eager and willing to pay for it.
