Can I refuse a Pap smear?

I have a ob appointment tomorrow and I feel like they’re gonna ask me to do a Pap smear since I’m due for one which I really don’t want someone all up in my business tomorrow and I def don’t feel comfortable with it being a male. The woman that’s in the office isn’t available so would I just be able to say I don’t want it done without an issue?

You don’t ever have to consent to anything. Your body, your choice. That being said, if you’re due for a Pap smear it’s a good idea to get it done. They’re not just recommending it for fun, it’s because it’s a genuinely useful test

You don’t have to consent to it, but with pregnancy there’s a lot of “being up in there” by the doctors so I would try to get use to that.

Yep I declined until after birth. I hate being touched while pregnant. My doctor saw no issue with it.

Depending on how far along you are, they're going to do a transvaginal ultrasound anyway. It's the only way to confirm early pregnancy, start ultrasounds don't start until 12-13 weeks. So they're gonna be all up in there anyway. 
Obviously, you can refuae anything. But if you genuinely don't want a man looking at you and you ARE early/going in to confirm pregnancy, reschedule the appt until you can see the woman and just get your bloodwork done

My OB said she suggests I get one because I am due for one but she said I can also just get it after the baby is born after my 6 week check up. So I would assume yes, you can ask to wait!

It’s your body. They can’t tell you what you HAVE to get done. Just ask to reschedule when there’s a female doctor available to do it 😊
