What would be best? Thoughts? Please read first

Question

For my boy. Faolan is Irish Gaelic (Celtic mythology) amd pronounced “fay-lyn.” Should I name him Faolan with the nickname Faye or just name him Faye? What do you think? NICE COMMENTS ONLY PLEASE 💜💜💜

I’m Irish and I would pronounce Faolan as ‘fway-lawn’, not fay-lyn.. and fathaigh as ‘fa-hig’, not Faye. Another similar option would be Feidhlim which is pronounced ‘fay-lim’ so that’s a bit closer to the pronunciation you like I think, just with an M instead of N? But the spelling of that one might be a bit too much for another country ☹️

I always say, if you’ve got traditional cultural roots for the name, go with the traditional spelling (Go with the original name if you’re trying to tie it back to the Irish Gaelic name, don’t shorten it). You just need to consider that you may have to remind people constantly on how to pronounce his name, but you could make that argument with many names. 🙂 I think it’s cute. I wouldn’t steer away from the cultural name just because some others wouldn’t choose it. English is not the only language!

I’d probably go with a different spelling of Faye for a boy. Like Fey or Fei. 
I like Faolan too. Maybe I’d vote Faolan with nickname spelled Fay.
