Impatiently waiting

I am 30, 31 in November. Stopped taking BC in mid-July, after 15+ years on it. I thought I was getting a period 8/12 because there was some blood when I wiped but it turned out to not be an actual period. Have been having unprotected sex more often than not but all preg/ovulation tests have been negative. Given I don’t even know my cycle am I just wasting tests? Looking for any words of wisdom. We delayed TTC for a year because I had a thyroid problem requiring treatment. It is now under control and I was given the OK to start TTC. I am just really yearning to be pregnant and have my own baby and getting impatient with the process even though I know I should relax a bit.
