Why do people think that America is the ‘greatest country on earth’?

Genuinely curious because from the outside looking in, it looks like a truly horrible place to live.
Edit: we have freedom in other countries too lol

Only brainwashed Americans believe that, and it's because their schools taught them that by erasing a lot of America's past and current issues from discussion in the classroom.

Because America is a place of freedom. It a place that embraces individuality, gives opportunity to be a self made man, is free of most social and cultural norms that other countries are rooted in, and is also embraces and opens its doors to immigrants to escape political or financial oppression in their own country while embracing their cultural identity. It has some nastiness in it past… unfortunately allot of countries do but overall it is a decent place for just about anyone whose motivated to live a stable life.

I think most people who think America is shit need to spend a little more time doing mission trips in third world countries. I was raised in the south and we were taught a lot of good and bad things about the development of the US. I have patriotism for all the wonderful things about our country. it's unique beginnings, it's geographical uniqueness. how it's a giant melting pot of cultures, how we were pivotal in WW2. how we have freedom especially for women, how people dir trying to come here. it's honestly the people that make it great. I'm definitely not into blind patriotism and there are several areas we are lacking. most people I know are appreciative to live here especially if they fled from other countries. the govt has done a lot of ugly things but I don't blame the US and it's people for it. and tell me one major country that doesn't have bloodshed on its hands. doesn't make it right but people, even from other countries, are so hyperfocused on the US

Those people are the loudest. There are those of us who see and know there is a lot of room to improve. But if we say that we're told "if you don't like it, leave!" Annoying, honestly. It is absolutely okay to recognize that you aren't actually the greatest at really anything. So many other countries are doing it better than us. But heaven forbid we take a look at what they're doing and why it's going right for them. *mumble, grumble* "merica" I'm paraphrasing there.
