Update on my son's visit to the psychologist

Disclaimer: Deleted my last post because it just became dabates on religion and a lot of people seemed to have forgotten the point. Not religious and I would like for everyone to plz keep religious advice off this post and to plz not argue in the comments over religion (Saying I'll pray for your son is perfectly fine)

My 14 year old old son has had this imaginary friend since childhood. I've waited for him to grow out of it but he says his friend is mean to him now. He draws pictures and comments and he I saw him drawing pictures of this friend killing him and writing comics about this friend telling him to kill himself. He spent hours with the psychologist. And I mean HOURS! His psychologist talked to us privately and said that our son ISN'T schizophrenic. He said that our son seems to at some level understand this friend isn't real, but with him not having any friends and being the victim of bullying he is wanting to hold onto the only friend he has, even if deep down he knows they aren't real. I didn't even know he was being bullied! His psychologist said our son is turning his friend mean because that's what he's receiving at school and what he thinks he deserves but this friend still calls himself his friend so he thinks it's okay. Basically our child created an abusive relationship for himself. His psychologist recommended therapy and said we need to get him out making real friends and showing him that all people aren't like that and will be better friends to him. Only then will he finally be okay with letting this friend go. He said the only mental illness our child seems to have is depression and suicidal thoughts. So we are finding him a therapist but as for helping him get friends idek where to start with that
