Mastitis Rant
Whelp, it happened. My body went from zero to 100 real quick. Last week I woke up for a 2 am feeding and everything was normal perfectly fine, I even pumped after to get the remaining milk out. Then at the 5am feeding I was feeling tightness of a clogged duct and by 8am my boob was the size of a softball. There was no milk coming out, no way baby was latching, excruciating pain and throbbing.. needless to say, very not fun.
I talked to a lactation specialist because I thought it was just a clogged duct and she told me to go to my doctor and by the end of the day she confirmed it was mastitis. I started antibiotics and fever and chills set in. Miserable experience really. All week I have only been pumping and dumping on that side because of the infection(it turned my milk green!)
Incase anyone was wondering when you're pumping out the infection it's almost cottage cheese looking. Super clumpy and stringy thick fatty milk, so gross.
I went back for a follow up to find out that the antibiotics I was on only worked a little bit because apparently my mastitis was so bad that had I not gone to the doctor on that first day it would've turned into an abscess. So now I get to take another 10 days of way stronger antibiotics which I don't look forward to.
I'm still super sore, swollen, and my boob is hot to the touch but that's just the physical, not being able to hold my baby without feeling that pain is hurting me emotionally. I'm just holding on to hope that it goes away soon. Anyway rant over lol, if you read this thank you I'm just upset that it all just came on super quick and it seems the infection wants to hold on for dear life..
