Does friends with benefits work

I’m scared I’ve made a mistake and I’m going to ruin a really great friendship 
Me and my best friend who is a guy have been joined at the hip for 2 years now , we tell eachother everything, I’m not usually doing anything without him. We’re always either with eachother, texting or calling. 
We go out often to party just the two of us or a group of friends it don’t matter. I’m talking most weeks too. Nothing ever romantically happened because none of us ever considered that before BUT
A couple weeks ago we both got abit drunk and I was at his flat like I usually do after a night out. We was chatting one on one and I stood up and he stood up and then he just gave me a look , grabbed my throat and kissed me. It went from there and now 2 weeks later I’m round his almost every night we lay in bed have deep chats about life and weird shit as usual, cuddle and have sex etc. He constantly kisses me whether it be my forehead, cheek my lips anything we’re never dressed and it’s just extremely comfortable. 
And when I go to leave he acts like we’re a full on couple and kisses me goodbye asks me when I’m next coming round. 
this has moved SO fast and I’m so confused. 
I don’t want to lose our friendship but I’m starting to feel things as is he, today when we woke up he said “we need to talk , I need to know where you want this to go”
And I have NO IDEA what to say because strings are already tied- we’re best friends and the way we’re acting like we are a whole couple, do friends with benefits act like that?? I’ve never done it.

Honestly it sounds like he may want more than just friends with benefits, but you need to have this conversation with him, if he’s just having fun, or he wants a relationship, or friends with benefits, sometimes friends with benefits means you’re good enough to have sex with, but you’re not good enough to be in a relationship with. A lot of the times if you can separate sex from feelings, it does last for a while, but when someone catches feelings, that’s usually when things are over because their feelings are not reciprocated and the other person ends up heartbroken or feeling used, and just remember just because you act like boyfriend and girlfriend, doesn’t mean that you are unless it comes out of his mouth, sometimes guys like the feeling of the girlfriend experience but don’t want the commitment or the drama or the responsibility that comes with a relationship. They like the stability of having you around, but they don’t want the strings attached, they still want to be able to live their life and mess with other people etc. You need to talk to him and figure out if this is a relationship, if there are feelings involved, once feelings become involved, does it end, are you boyfriend and girlfriend, are you friends with benefits, are you just hooking up, it sounds like to me that he’s looking for more, because you’ve known each other for so long, and things just flow so naturally. But if you’re not ready for that then by all means you need to say something to him. If he has feelings for you and you don’t have feelings for him, vice versa things are going to get awkward between the two of you. But you need to see if you both are on the same page. And if you’re not, then unfortunately with friends with benefits, you usually end up losing the friendship and love or in the end because it’s awkward or it’s hard to see them move on with other people or you just end it all together because you don’t want to be feeling that way anymore. Some turn into a relationship, some do not. Some people just need an outlet, something to do, something to break the norm, escape from reality, and that’s exactly what it is to them versus the other person catching feelings wanting a relationship or companionship etc. you guys definitely need to have a talk and see if you’re both on the same page or not. My current partner we’ve known each other 20 years, he’s always had feelings for me, but he never mentioned it. Because we work together on a professional level, from time to time and he didn’t want to complicate things, he also has children, and there’s a large age gap between the two of us, had he approached me when I was 20, he would’ve just been the creepy old guy to me. But now that I’m 42, and makes a little more sense, his kids are grown, other in college, it’s not like he’s looking for me to cut them around town and be his babysitter, we both own homes, we both have businesses, it’s not like I’m a little girl that he’s taking advantage of anymore. He’s 16 years older than me. So you definitely get the distinction with the age gap, but he is my fantasy, he is at whole power dynamic, we have the whole daddy daughter vibe thing going, it’s a totally works, and he just has this charisma and passion about him and it just takes my breath away when he presses me up against the wall and makes out with me, and it totally works, we’ve been at this for over a year now so but I wish you luck I really do, I hope it works out, I hope it’s everything you ever dreamed of, and I hope it turns into a Relationship, if it doesn’t, then you win some and you lose.￼￼￼￼
