Shower by mail/charity donation

So with Delta/Mu numbers spiking - I just really don’t know if an in person shower is right call. My family & friends are scattered everywhere and bringing them all to a central location with everything going on seems iffy. I’ve never really had my heart set on having a shower anyway but my sister is really pushing for one.

I’ve suffered through enough zoom showers for a lifetime the past year and a half… and we don’t need all that much anyway.

Thinking in lieu of a traditional shower we could send invitations to people and ask them do donate to March of Dimes in baby’s honor? Or if they really want to buy a gift for us, pledge x amount of dollars to MOD for each item purchased from our registry?

Is this tacky or do you think it could catch on?
