Advice is greatly appreciated

So I went to the doc today and my beta hcg level was 237 and they put me on progesterone 200mg pills 1 time a day for 10 days I'm only 4-5 weeks pregnant. What I'm wondering is why am I on it for a short period of time ain't I suppose to be on it till I'm 12 weeks or longer and ain't they suppose to wean me off it not just make me quit cold turkey due to bleeding?
