Crib bumper!?

Hello!

So my baby is 5 months now, and decided today for the first time while he was in his crib that he was going to pull himself to sit upright. In doing so , his head was obviously heavy and he bonked it super hard on the side of the crib. He’s a super squirmy guy and constantly bonks his head on the crib, I know they’re not advised which is why I haven’t gotten one this far, but I wanted to know if maybe it was better to have one on the crib than not?

Are there any alternatives? We have a mesh one on the crib right now since again he’s super squirmy and gets his hands and feet in between the bars.
