Thinking about getting an iud- paraguard or mirena?
I have been single for quite awhile and hate birth control so I’ve just been using condoms as I wasn’t having sex that often. Now I have a new boyfriend and we’re having sex regularly, so I would feel safer if I had some form of birth control as well. I’ve tried a couple different pills, and the shot in the past, and hated them all. With both pills I spotted all the time in between periods and they affected my mood. I’m also really bad at taking daily pills.
So I have been thinking about an iud since it’s more permanent and I don’t have to do anything once I get it. I initially was only considering paraguard because it has no hormones, but keep reading that it can make your periods worse. So I started looking into mirena also, which sounds like it makes your periods stop for a lot of people. I don’t have bad periods currently, but no periods at all sounds great.
If you have/had the paraguard or mirena iud, could you share pros/cons and if you like it? How was the pain/bleeding for the first couple months after insertion? Can your partner ever feel the strings during sex? Also can you use a menstrual cup with an iud? They create suction so I’m not sure. I alternate between my cup, menstrual discs, and occasionally tampons for my periods
