20 week anatomy scan?

So I am at week 18 I am so excited for my upcoming dr appointment so shortly after I can have the anatomy scan! This is my first time being pregnant! I can’t wait to see our baby looking more like an actual baby!!!!! I’m so excited!!!! Do you see facial features?? Also is it an abdominal US vs a vaginal? I had a bleeding experience with vaginal and don’t want that again. We aren’t finding out the gender and I’m just praying all will be fine with our baby. We were asked to do the genetic testing and I declined. I felt that we would love the baby no matter what so what stress. Our dr said there are also sometimes false positives. Have any of you not done genetic testing? We pray for a healthy happy baby and that’s that. Thank you!

They don’t really focus on the facial features or anything like that it’s mainly to see if every organ is working properly and they do measurements but make sure you tell them you don’t wanna know the gender because that’s when they tell you too! Regarding about the genetic testing I understand but sometimes it’s good to get it done because if anything comes back positive the doctors watch you more closely

And it’s abdominal ultrasound

It’ll be abdominal for sure! The focus from the doctors point of view is measurements of everythinggg from arm bones to heart ventricle sizes, plus making sure everything is there and formed correctly. You’ll see baby look more like a baby for sure, but you won’t really get a whole lot of like “unique” facial structures in a 2D scan unless they switch to 3D/4D (most places don’t). The ultrasound lasts a while tho, mine was almost an hour and it was awesome to experience it, see her moving around on the screen, And hear she’s growing well. Here’s some of my scan photos

Also tell the tech if you don’t want to know the gender but if you’re watching the screen you might see anyways 🥲 as you can see when they look the hand measurement my little girl was NOT being a proper modest lady in there 😂 and they weren’t looking for her parts at that time

I tried to do the genetic testing, my local hospital has NICU trained staff, but no NICU, we would keep and love any kid we get but I was originally thinking if something would be wrong that I’d stay with family by a bigger hospital. My genetic testing came back inconclusive twice so they sent me to a high risk person who decided that they couldn’t see enough to say if we were at risk or not. I’m doing my anatomy scan with the high risk peeps in about a month, hopefully by then our baby will be big enough for them to tell us for sure we’re at least not high risk.

Abdominal ultrasound. We didn’t do genetic testing or find out the gender for either of our kids. Anatomy’s scans mostly focus on the growth - organs, blood flow to and from the heart, and bone length. Both our techs focused in on facial features at the end so we could see our little ones. They also both told us when to not look when they were measuring the lower half that may have given away the gender to us.

The first time around I didn’t do genetic testing. This time around I am going to because we are 5 years older than the last time.
