A girl on tik tok was explaining how she feels that lip fillers are cosmetic blackface. She was made fun of as a child for her lips and now they’re being glorified and white people want them because it’s the new beauty trend, yet they have the privilege of not having to worry about the dark history behind people being scrutinized for their lips. Specifically she mentions minstrel shows, which were a racist form of American entertainment in the early 19th and 20th centuries where Black people were depicted with big red lips that were heavily emphasized and were used as the butt of people jokes.

So what to do you think? I think what she’s saying is true and a lot of people just don’t want to admit it.

I’m not talking about people who naturally have full lips. I’m talking about people who are specifically going for that look but don’t have to worry or think about about how people were treated before it became a trend.
