Thoughts on Induction
Hey mommas! I’m sorry for the lengthy post but I would like some of your opinions on induction in my situation. I am currently 35 weeks pregnant with my baby girl and my OBGYN brought up inducing me at 39 weeks at my appointment today. She said that she would strongly encourage it, but only gave what/if scenarios as a reason why. She listed the following reasons as to why she thinks it’s a good idea: babies gain weight rapidly towards the end of pregnancy so she could go from a normal weight to over weight very quickly, the placenta could get old and stop working properly, and the chances of having a C-section get higher the longer pregnancy lasts. For some background on my pregnancy, I am overweight and because of that I have had more ultrasounds than the typical pregnant women. Last week I had a growth scan and my baby is measuring at approximately 5 lbs 9 oz. My OBGYN said she was really happy with that weight, because she originally thought my baby was going to be big, maybe even “too big” for a vaginal delivery. I also have weekly biophysical ultrasounds to monitor baby girl and make sure she is moving, has enough fluid, etc. My baby has passed all of her biophysical ultrasounds and is looking to be perfectly healthy. Besides being overweight, I am healthy too. No preeclampsia or gestational diabetes. For these reasons I am really confused whether or not I should schedule an induction or not. Of course I want to listen to my doctor, but I have had other people say they wouldn’t recommend getting one. My OBGYN wants to talk about what I’m thinking at next weeks appointment, so I really want to try to make my mind up before than. Help!
