Toddler requires ER? (23 months)

He hasn't been fussy but very hot and has a cough. I took him to urgent care yesterday because of this cough but had no fever at the time. We tested for Covid and for Influenza and both are negative. Early this morning he started to feel warm so I gave him tylenol. He vomited shortly after because of the rough cough. I checked his temp again and it's showing 103.9 but he is moving around and playing with the dog fine. Should I still take him to the ER?

Can you give him a dose of Motrin since he likely vomited up the Tylenol? Then 4 hours later do Tylenol again then Motrin 4 hours after that and repeat. Unless he starts acting off, his urine gets very dark, or trouble breathing….I would avoid the ER right now because you’ll probably be there forever around people with some serious stuff. Get on a schedule with Tylenol and Motrin and give plenty of fluids and I’d watch and wait. Does your pediatrician have a phone number you can call during non-business hours? Could call that for some peace of mind too!

I would take him to emergency room.. and to bring fever down I use Motrin especially when it gets that high. Use cold cloth for your babies forehead. I know some are saying urgent care but I feel like urgent care just quickly look at you and send you home.. at a ER they can do blood work and give fluids if needed. Also blood work would come back within an hour..

Take all his clothes off and give him a cool bath. Keep him in diaper/underwear and nothing else. You can alternate Motrin and Tylenol and make sure you push lots of fluids! Don’t want him to get dehydrated. And keep an eye on him to make sure there’s no seizure like activity. Hopefully it was just a fluke reading.

How did they take his temp at urgent care? Those forehead readers aren’t the most accurate a lot of the time. It’s recommended to take babies temperature rectally for the most accurate reading. Is his breathing labored at all? I’d call the on call pediatrician and ask what they suggest you do

The fact that he’s still playing is great. There is a nasty virus going around. My kid was basically a rag doll and fever for 5 days and that’s when we took her in since doctor said they wouldn’t see her 🤬

Give the medicine time to work. Try alternating Tylenol and Motrin. It doesn't have to break the fever, but lower it. Also, try getting a rectal temperature, it's most accurate. Febrile seizures are a risk around 104, so watch out for that.
