Ovulation

So I’m TTC this month , the app said ovulation day was the 8th but I wanted to test myself also. I bought the clear blue 10pk ones that include the pregnancy test. My period tampered off around sept 30 . Two days later I had intercourse oct 2 but it was really early in the morning. I wanted to start testing so when I got up my lines were a lil dark. I tested the next 7 days and I barely had any lines or nothing show up on the sticks. So I stopped testing . So I have a silly question:

Are guys peeing directly on the stick or in a cup and placing it in there? I’ve placed it in the cup and not sure if it picked up anything.

Do you guys think I ovulated later and will this be enough this month ?
