Can antidepressants affect milk supply?

Question

I’m a little confused because my OB said they’d want to wean me off my antidepressants before my baby comes. I didn’t have a chance to ask a lot of questions afterwards. Is there a reason why? I do plan on breastfeeding. This will be my second baby and I had terrible PPD with my first so I was kinda hoping to just stay on my antidepressants in case I have PPD again.

Mine weaned me off before birth too and I assumed it wasn’t safe while breastfeeding, but I’ve met many women since who stayed on theirs throughout so I’d definitely talk to your dr.  I wished I had.  I don’t know if it’s found in higher concentrations in breast milk than just crossing through the placenta or what they’re reasoning was.  I wish I would have asked more questions for sure.

I think it’s because of withdrawal for the baby if you use them. After baby is born I believe it is safe to gradually increase back up again.
