Is 12 months of breastfeeding long enough?
I am a mom of an 11 month old and a full time teacher. The mantra I hear from everyone is breastmilk or formula for the first 12 months so I've had it in my head that I'd beastfeed for a year then stop. As my son nears his first birthday I've begun planning out his wean. I know he would do fine with it as he is great at eating solids and is not picky on his milk. I also have a pretty decent sized freezer stock. But now I'm starting to worry about if I'm depriving him of benefits by stopping now instead of close to 2 years old. If you look it up you read about all these decreased risks later on if you breastfeed past a year. I guess I could make it work but like I said I work full time. I also was hoping to start trying for another baby in about 6 months and just really want a short time to have my body to myself before pregnant again. I don't know what to do now.
