“Reusing” a name?

Question

I don’t know the gender of this baby yet but last year, I lost a baby girl at 18 weeks which we had found a name for. We didn’t tell anyone about it so only my husband and I know it. 
I can’t get this name out of my mind while looking for other names for our growing bean. Would it be okay to use that name that was meant for our daughter? Nothing was made official, we don’t have anything in writing with her name on it. 
My only concern is that if eventually we tell people that the name was supposed to be for the baby we lost, people will think we are trying to replace her which is absolutely not the case, we want to honour her. What do you guys think?

Absolutely nothing wrong with it in my eyes! I’m doing that same. I had a name picked out for my angel baby and when I fall again I will still use the same names (we had boy & girl picked out) I see it as a way of honouring them rather than replacing them. If you and your partner feel like it is the right then to do abs what you want to do then it is only your opinions that count ☺️

Whether or not it’s your intention, I think if I were named after a deceased sibling, I would feel like my parents see me as the replacement. I’d give each of your children their own name.

I agree with previous poster. The name was intended for someone else and it’s almost like taking it away from that baby. Maybe if you would like to honor that baby you can use it as a middle name.

I dont think I would do it, the deceased baby should have her name you chose for her. Also if my parents did that I’d probably feel like a replacement

I think the key is… did you PLAN to name the other baby this name? Or did you NAME her this name?
If you planned to name her but never did, then maybe you could chose another name for that baby that might have been? And use the name you’ve dreamed of for the baby you will raise.
On the other hand, if you named the baby you lost… like really decided in your hearts that this is her name… then I think it’s maybe not fair to either of them to reuse it.
It’s a hard situation and I’m sorry for your loss. 
Another option is leaving that name open as a possibility while you look for others to consider as well. It might be easier to find alternatives when the old name is left open rather than trying to make yourself say no to it. Maybe delaying the decision and opening your hearts to new possibilities will help you make a clearer choice down the line.

That’s bad luck to me. Heck no. And imagine when your child finds out that they had an older sibling with the same exact name? That would creep me out big time.
