Question

First time mom debating between a car seat that grows with the baby and needing a separate stroller or getting a travel system that clicks together but having to upgrade with baby’s size. What worked for you?

I wasn’t a huge fan of the infant seat! I only used one because my baby was a preemie and didn’t fit properly in the seat I linked. We made the switch when she was 5 months old. I wore her in a carrier more than used a stroller. It was just easier for me 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think someone else already recommended this, but wanted to share it as well. Not only is this one of the most convenient things, it’s got a really great safety rating. I was in a roll over crash with my lo in the car at 2 months old. The car that hit me hit right in front of her door. She came out with only a single scratch from the broken glass. It literally saved her life.

I recommend going to the store and test driving a few strollers. Seeing what works best for you and your needs. What features matter most to you. We went with the Baby Jogger Select LUX and a nuna infant seat. We just purchased the car seat adapter. We really wanted the bench option since our first is 3 and still like to ride in the stroller during long walks. Once baby is older we won't need the to put the car seat to the stroller and just put him in the stroller seat. Also think about if you might want more kids. We went with a uppababy cruz V2 (love uppababy as a single not for a double) becuase we had a hard time getting pregnant and didn't think we would be able to again. We were blessed and then I wished I would have gotten the double stroller the first time.

I chose the stroller I wanted to use for years, and then chose an infant seat that worked with it. The vista, along with some others, have bassinet attachments and also have a stroller seat that is lay flat to be safe from birth. Remember that while a travel system is nice, it is best for baby to be out of the seat unless actively traveling in the car. Look up positional asphyxiation. It was nice to have for a quick run into the store to grab one thing, but for walks or longer shops, bassinet or lay flat seat is really important.
As a first time mom, I liked the infant seat because I could strap him in inside and make sure he was in properly. I wasn’t totally confident doing it from the side once he was in the car. If we have another kid, I’ll use the infant seat because we have it, but if it expired or whatever, I would just start with a convertible.

We got a travel system with my first. So convenient to click the infant car seat in and out of the car seat base and stroller. We upgraded to a convertible car seat at 1 year old, and now we’re having another baby and the infant car seat is still usable (not expired yet) so we already have a car seat for both kids!

I am a fan of the infant seat - especially at first. They fall asleep you just take the seat in the store, or in the house. In the winter you’re not dragging a baby out of their snuggly seat into the cold. That being said my baby quickly outgrew his infant seat. He maxed out the height at 5 months because he has a crazy long torso. So we moved him into a convertible seat pretty quickly. I will still do an infant carrier with any babies for as long as I can!
