Teaching dilemma with kids

Laila

Hi ladies,

I currently am a teacher on iTalki which is a platform where there are lots of tutors that students can choose from. Each tutor sets their own pay rates and hours, so it’s very flexible for me which is great because I just finished high school and am taking a gap year with lots of travel. I’ve been teaching for about 8 months now on the side and it’s been going fairly well but I’m just really tired of teaching the students who are young kids. Currently I teach all ages, so I have some students who are in their 20s and early 30s but also have students as young as 8. The young kids haven’t done anything wrong per say, they just take a lot of planning and energy that I don’t really have at the moment. I like teaching but it’s just stressful teaching that age group and trying to keep these kids entertained, especially the ones who don’t want to have English class in general and are understandably unmotivated.

So my problem is I’m trying to figure out how to find a professional-sounding excuse for why I would like to stop teaching kids (the young ones at least) and focus on just adults. Any ideas? This is a message that I will have to send parents so I’m trying to be polite and professional, especially since parents tend to have lots of opinions about teachers😅 I would really really appreciate any advice!
