Leaving state ?

I am looking to relocate my current situation isn’t the best, I do not have any custody agreement or current parenting arrangements. My kids live with me and have always lived with me. My ex hasn’t made a effort and basically neglected and abandon the kids, no contact or attempt. I would like to visit my mom or maybe move out of state because I need a change and he is very controlling and abusive. I know he would not allow us to leave the state or try to say I kidnap the kids. I do not want to press charges or harassment or anything. I just want to get away.
