Shoulder dystocia

Catherine

32 weeks pregnant today and starting to freak out about making a decision whether I should attempt vaginal birth or schedule a C-section.

I had a previous shoulder dystocia with my first son, they got him out relatively quickly and neither him or I had injuries thankfully. He was 7lbs 10oz 20.5 inches, so he wasn’t a huge baby.

The doctors have been strongly encouraging a C-section from the get go this time around because of my previous history with a shoulder dystocia. Because of this they have been doing growth scans throughout the pregnancy to monitor his size as well. I found out at my last ultrasound that baby boy is measuring almost 3 weeks ahead and so is my belly apparently.

(Fundal height measurement)

Now they are saying a large baby like that increases the possibility of a shoulder dystocia even more and he might not even fit etc etc

I am so torn! Our recovery and post partum last time was so easy (even with the shoulder) and it truly wasn’t hard to bounce back and take care of him.

If I choose a C-section, obviously recovery time is more and I also have the 4 year old to care for.

I feel like it’s kinda selfish of me to not opt for the c-section though cause they keep saying it’s what’s safest for baby? At the same time I feel like it’s worth a shot to try to deliver naturally? Like my body was made for this!!

Doctor said she could induce me at 39 weeks to prevent him getting super big and we can see what happens.

Just looking for opinions and maybe mama’s that had a similar situation,

The mom guilt is real over here!
