OB is being weird about Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy?

A

Hey guys,

I have a question/rant. So 10 weeks ago I had a C-Section and also found out I have diastasis recti. Since then, I’ve had three UTIs from not being able to feel my bladder well enough, pain while trying to have sex, continued abdominal pain with abdominal weakness. I was recommended pelvic floor physiotherapy by both urgent care PAs, many other women experiencing the same thing online, and many articles written by physical therapists about the issues I’m dealing with.

I figured it won’t hurt to try, so I asked my OB for a referral. First he said “That’s only necessary if you’ve had a vaginal birth” even though everything online said it doesn’t matter if it’s vaginal or c section. 2 more calls later and he’s finally writing the referral but said “Don’t be surprised if they look at you funny when you get over there. Pelvic floor physiotherapy is for older women with bladder issues.” Like I love my OB and he’s been amazing with everything else, but I don’t get why he’s being so weird about this? Even the receptionist at the physical therapy place acted like it was normal for people with my issues to be seen. It just makes me feel like I’m an idiot for even asking for the referral.
