Wearing traditional clothes

My Oma is dying and I'm realizing I never learned much about her, and our culture. My dad rejected everything about family growing up and the traditions died with his childhood. From what I heard, since she immigrated after WW2, there was shame in being German, so I believe she didn't pass much along to her kids for fear of them being ostracized.

I want to learn more about Germany, including taking German classes to learn the language. I already dress in vintage clothes, but I've started to fall in love with traditional tract (clothes) like the dirndl. Unlike cheap Oktoberfest versions, traditionally it is a skirt, vest, and blouse with an apron. Im considering making a few (i sew) and could even see myself wearing it exclusively. Its not that far off what I already wear, after all.

Does anyone else wear traditional clothes or want to connect with their family's lost culture?
