When did you first have bloodwork done for pregnancy?

My first ob visit was scheduled for 9 weeks, but I called to switch my appt to 8 weeks so I could get an ultrasound/confirmation of pregnancy and tell my family with a little more confidence. When I went at 8 weeks, they just did an ultrasound, no blood work. The doctor did the ultrasound and told me we won’t do the blood work until my next appt (week 10 or 11) because it was too soon. Is that normal? She said the heartbeat was normal and the baby measured the right size but I’m worried she saw something that made her think this pregnancy wont last so she didn’t want to waste the blood work? Am I over thinking?

Most doctors don’t do bloodwork to confirm pregnancy unless you’ve had previous losses/miscarriages & this happens very early (as soon as you test positive) But especially after you’ve had an ultrasound there’s no reason to do confirmation bloodwork. The bloodwork at your 10-11 week is checking for other things - not to confirm the pregnancy.

My first appointment was at 10 weeks. I had an ultrasound and blood work. The blood work is to check for STD’s, HIV, and CBC.

You are definitely overthinking. I haven't had blood work done at my first appointment with any of my 3 pregnancies (2 happy healthy kids, and one on the way still) They almost always wait a few weeks, probably because they can't tell things from the blood work that early. Don't worry mama, if there was something out of the ordinary they would most definitely tell you! They don't want to risk getting sued 😅

I was offered the bloodwork (look for infections, etc.) at my first appointment at 9 weeks, but I asked to defer a couple weeks so I could get it drawn with my NIPT.

They checked my levels in the ER when I was having some bleeding. But my OB didn’t check my labs until I was about 12-13weeks
