IUI Experiences Requested

My husband and I have been TTC for 4 years come February 2021. Our original fertility care was scheduled to start in March 2020 (and we all know that that means it was postponed). I finally got in around February 2021 and had my OBGYN check out the tubes, ovaries, uterus, and checked for endometriosis since we had been trying for 3 years at that time. Nothing wrong with any of my side of things.

Fast forward to August 2021, due to a wait list at the the fertility clinic that is the earliest we could get in. Right before the appointment, we naturally conceived for the first time in 3.5 years but lost it at 5w3d. But at least we still had the fertility appointment for some hope. Husband got checked out and has a great count, motility, and average morphology. Now we know, frustratingly, unexplained infertility.

I had my first round of 100 mg Clomid without trigger in September. 3 mature follicles and one trailing. Ovulated late (which was abnormal but apparently typical for Clomid) but did ovulate naturally (which is what my body usually does). However, the IUI was unsuccessful. Second round was cancelled due to a few sizable cysts related to the size of the follicles from the previous round. No success naturally. Third round we went ahead with Clomid 100 mg after a clear baseline. CD 12 ultrasound showed 5 mature follicles. Therefore, cycle cancelled and it was recommended we don’t TTC. We did try anyways (I know it’s not the best but we very much want to take every opportunity we can get and ovulation fell around my birthday [31 btw] haha). No success naturally. This current round, fourth, wasn’t cancelled but I was dropped to 50 mg Clomid with the trigger shot. Shockingly, 5 mature follicles and 1 trailing with decreased Clomid. Doctors are confused but are willing to try for IUI because of the history and we are willing to deal with the consequences.

In the TWW and it’s going to be whatever it is going to be. If this doesn’t work, IVF is scheduled for March 2021.

What is everyone’s IUI experience? Anyone else have weird reactions to Clomid?
