Can I create breastmilk after I stopped pumping?!
Please please be kind! I’ll start off by saying I’m a first time mom. I had to get an emergency c section at 35 weeks and 6 days. I was really weak after my c section and my nurses expressed that I need to recover a bit before I try pumping! My baby was in the NICU for 16 days where she was tube fed for 10 days and then bottle fed for 5 until they finally let me hold her and latch her. At this point I had been religiously pumping every 2 hours and taking every bit to the hospital daily. When baby was finally released I started experiencing baby blues. I felt so depressed. It was exhausting to wake up every 2 hours to feed baby and I had to supplement my pumped breastmilk with formula because I was not producing enough. For her first check up they said she wasn’t gaining enough and put her back in premature formula (higher calorie). So the lactation constant said to let her latch then bottle feed formula and then pump. By the time I finished feeding baby and changing her and putting her to sleep I wanted to cry due to still having to pump. My mental health definitely took a toll. Not to mention baby would not latch for long since she would get fussy and not get enough milk. So I slowly stopped pumping and I notice the extra sleep and getting in a routine helped so much. She is already one month old. Bottom line is I would love to give her more breastmilk but of course since I stopped pumping now I barely have milk. Is it possible to produce again after I practically stopped? Sorry for the long post!
