Genetic testing for you and partner?

Just wondering how many of y’all opted for genetic testing to see if you are carriers of any diseases. My friend did it and she has two abnormalities and now I’m worried because I did not do it and now I don’t know if my baby could potentially be affected….

I opted out for both of my babies! A lot of people get false positives and it causes unnecessary stress and worry. Plus a lot of the time they will find markers of a genetic abnormality during anatomy scan.

We did genetic testing for ourselves and since we did IVF we also tested the embryo. For us, it was definitely reassuring to have all of the answers up front.

I did this time around because of my “advanced maternal age” and it came back normal. We didn’t know this was an option with our first and didn’t do any genetic testing.

I only got it in my third pregnancy because my sister had done it during fertility testing and found herself to be a carrier for cystic fibrosis.  My test came back positive as a carrier as well so we then had my husband tested.  Cystic fibrosis comes with a 50/50 chance of your child inheriting it if both parents carry and no chance if it’s only one so it was definitely worth the check for my hubby.

My OB office just did it with routine blood work with my first baby. My husband had to go through his own insurance at the time to make sure he didn’t have the same genetic abnormality as I do, but it was optional for him to do so
