Sanitizing comforter?

My husband just got over Covid. I need to sanitize the room he was in, including the bed and comforter. What's the best way to sanitize the comforter? It's a queen size and I'm not sure it will fit in my washer and I'm scared washing it will mess it up. Also, what's a good cleaner to sanitize the entire room? If I do wash the comforter, will just soap be good enough to kill the germs? Thanks a bunch! 😊
