Labor starting?

What did your contractions and early labor feel like when it was getting started? I’m having crampy period like pains in my pelvic area & my lower back is achy. Ftm so I don’t know what it’s supposed to feel like 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’m 38 weeks & 4 days.

Felt like that for the 3 days I was in latent labor (early stages of labor, confirmed by L&D triage.) Once I switched over to active labor it was enough to wake me up, but still not painful. They never really got painful. I only went in because they woke me up. Got admitted to a room at 3:28 am, he was born at 4:21 am. Didnt even have time for pain meds. Didnt really need them. My contractions with him weren't even half as bad as my period cramps. (Compared to pitocin contractions with my daughter and having the epidural.) I fully expected like holy shit I'm being ripped apart from the inside pain.

I had period pains for three hours and then had my first contraction. 
The difference to me was that the contraction came in “waves” and I couldn’t mistake it for anything else. It felt like braxton hicks and bad period pains at first (before it got intense). 
Sounds like it could be the start! Some people have the period like pains for a few days. Good luck 😍
