Do you believe you can be friends with an ex while in a new relationship?

For example, you guys care about each other, and don’t see each other in a sexual way anymore. You both dont ever see yourselves getting back together romantically, and you are happy to see the other person happy in a relationship. (Btw im not in this situation myself, just curious to see what you ladies have to say ☺️)

My ex is my best friend. I’ve known him for going on 14 years now. We dated for about a year when we first met, but always kept in touch and are still best friends. He is now married, as am I, and he and my husband are like brothers from another mother. My husband says it was awkward at first to know he was my ex, but he went in with an open mind. Now, they are also great friends, but I guess now it’s more like we’re all family. It’s really nice, plus his kids and my kids are the same age.

Idk, I’m sure it is possible. I have never been able to nor wanted to.. I have tried w one a few times & we always ended up back together. We were never good at being just friends. I have also dated a guy for 2 years & he was friends with one of his ex’s.. he was with her for 7 years & they were super close and it personally just made me uncomfortable, but I didn’t try to end their friendship or anything. It was just a big struggle in that relationship.

It depends, sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t, sometimes down deep one person still has feelings and hopes to catch you at a moment of weakness, sometimes drunken situations happen, some people you can stay friends with, some people you can’t, it all depends on the situation it’s a person by person. I am somebody who has more male friends and female friends, it’s always just been easier to be friends with men then it was with women because it was either competition or Catty behavior or gossip or￼ whatever else. Some of my friends are exes, and a lot of my exes I have nothing to do with ever again, usually because there was a really crappy situation. But if it works out, knock yourself out, if it doesn’t work out and things get complicated, then that’s a decision you need to make. You also need to realize that not every person you date is comfortable with you being friends with an ex, and it may cause insecurities and unnecessary fights etc. You also need to keep that in mind. And be upfront and honest and not lie about it and say oh he’s just a friend and then of course they’re going to be thinking yea right.￼ Obviously they will be lack of trust, all kinds of things if the guy is not an open minded person willing to except the situation.
