Birth control to regulate cycles

Stephanie

My periods are very irregular and my hubby and I are trying to get pregnant, so it’s been really hard to track my cycles because of the irregularity. I have a dr appt set up to talk about potential hormone issues and get blood work done, but I can’t get in for almost 2 months. I talked to a former midwife who’s a friend, and she said people would sometimes go back on birth control for 3 months in order to give your body hormones needed to initiate a more consistent cycle. But she said it’s been 10 years since she’s been a midwife, so I’m wondering if this is still a recommended practice? It seems counterintuitive to go back on birth control while we’re trying to get pregnant (obviously nothing would happen for 3 months), but if the hormones help me get more regular cycles, it would be worth the delay, I guess.
