My Preeclampsia Birth Story
Monday July 26th - 35w4d -non stress test. Blood pressure was high. So they did some blood tests came back that I had gestational hypertension, which turns into preeclampsia. I was admitted and had an ambulance ride to Another hospital because My Hospital does not deliver babies before 36 weeks, due to having no NICU. And I wasn’t 36 weeks for 3 more days.
So my hospital sent me to a hospital with a NICU, just in case it was needed.
I spent Monday night through Wednesday morning under observation. Tons of blood tests, every 8 hours or maybe even more. Monday night the blood pressure cuf went off every 15 min.
Wednesday morning they said my liver enzymes were officially showing pre eclampsia so they were gonna induce, and with magnesium. So I was put on bed rest while inducing labor.
I had pitocin, and the balloon put in at 11am Wednesday. Along with the magnesium drip and a catheter put in.
The magnesium was intense, I instantly felt 200 degrees. Was so hot. The magnesium is basically a muscle relaxer(?). I was a vegetable.
They left the ballon in 12 hours, then after that kept up in my petocin. I got an epidural around 1:30am Thursday, just before they broke my water. I used the peanut ball in bed.
Getting the epidural really helped relieve my magnesium side affects. After getting the epidural I instantly fell asleep for hours. 🙌🏻
We were not ready to push till maybe 5pm Thursday.
My contractions were 10 min apart they were saying the magnesium caused that.
I ended up pushing for over 3 hours. And Charles Cody was born 8:42pm Thursday 7/29. 6lbs 2oz, 21 inches long. 💙
No NICU needed.
I tore in two places, doctor cut me, and I pooped….
After delivery I still need to be on magnesium for 24 hours with a catheter, due to pre eclampsia.
So the next 24 hours my husband was amazing with our son, while I was basically a vegetable watching on and dozing off occasionally.
Didn’t get off magnesium till 9pm Friday. So happy to be off it and feel normal and take care of my baby. 💙
Wasn’t at all what i expected at all.
From day one I said I didn’t want a birth plan cuz nothing goes as planned in the hospital…. Didn’t get released from the hospital till 5pm Monday August 2nd. 7 night stay in the hospital. And I was released with high blood pressure meds, I had to take for a month.
