Introducing toddler to new baby

How do you go about introducing your baby to your toddler? In my head we would always do it in the hospital and daddy would bring him in, but with COVID I don’t think hospitals in our area are allowing siblings into the hospitals. I could be wrong? I guess what has been your experience?

We are currently living with my parents while we build a home so they will be there and will be watching our toddler, but I really was looking forward to that event as being just us. I want him to be the first to see his new baby before Grandma and Grandpa meet her. Is that selfish? I know they will be excited to meet her. They’re pretty good about boundaries so I imagine they would just stand back and maybe take pictures.

I’m also worried about being away from him for a few days as we’ve never been apart for more than a few hours and I really had hoped that in the hospital I could have a few minutes with him before we bring the baby in. This all is making me super emotional and im only halfway! It’s just one of those moments you’ll never get back ya know? I want it to be perfect.
