People who are good at work deals- do I have a basis to negotiate here?
Long story short….
Interviewed for a job. Got asked what my desired salary is, I gave a number of 55k. Should have given a range. ‘My mistake.
They said they could hit that target because their range is $26-$29 (if im doing the math correctly, my desired salary of 55k is at the $26 mark! Ahhh I didnt know they pay more lol).
They are currently reviewing my references and will probably then send me a job offer.
However, now that I know they can pay more, i want to ask for more of course. How do I go about this professionally?
Do I bring it up now BEFORE the job offer, or after?
What is my basis for reasoning? Im thinking I say something like “after rounds of interviews and really getting to know the position and what it entails, I know I had a desired salary of 55k set but I believe my many years of experience in the industry, my high level of skills, and other competing job offers make me better fitted for a salary of about $60k (which I think is about $29, which they said they can hit). I am open to negotiating this with you and coming up with a number which suits both of us”
I guess Im just trying to aim for more money since I now know its within their budget, but doing so professionally (and no, no competing offers actually yet lol just few interviews). Is it bad to bring up competing offers (they had asked in the past if i had any and I said yes so it would make sense to say i have offers from there now, no?)
