Insurance coverage
Literally less than an hour after calming down after a meltdown, i checked the mail and had another one. 🙄 I signed up for health insurance for this year, after not having any last year, and picked my obgyn off their website. As in they showed me which doctors accepted their insurance. Made my first appointment, confirmed they accepted my insurance. I had my appointment, had a pap smear, urine culture, and some other things, paid slightly over my “specialist doctor appointment” amount listed on my card. It’s now a month later, and I just received something in the mail from my insurance. If I’m understanding it right, it’s saying the lab that my doctor sent my pap smear stuff too wasnt in network, and therefore wasnt covered by my insurance. The total amount for all of it is just over $700, and lists the breakdown of each thing and the cost. The paper itself says it’s not a bill, and says the $700 is the amount i “may” owe, but it says the allowed amount for each thing listed is $0. I wasnt told of the possibility of it being out of network at my appointment, and i dont understand why my doctor would be in network but the services they provided there, something as basic as a urine test, would be out of network ? It says I can file a claim to dispute this, and i’ll be calling on monday to try to get a better understanding, but I’m freaking out. I’m over 15 weeks pregnant, i’m going to be having more and more appointments over the next several months, and now I’m stressed that none of my shit is even going to be covered ?? I still have well over a thousand dollars i’m paying off from an ER visit (where they did fucking nothing, i might add) last year, it’s killing my credit, and if i have to add hundreds or thousands more on top of that i may lose my absolute mind. Can anyone help me understand this better ?? Am I really going to be responsible for this entire $700 ?!?
