Ectopic?

What were your first symptoms of an ectopic pregnancy? 
I'm currently in the ER with light brown spotting for the past 36 hours. Not enough to fill a pad but enough to wear one. 
No cramping. No nausea. Normal pregnancy symptoms. 
Can someone tell me what theirs was like? Or if this type of spotting is normal? I need some words of encouragement because I'm very scared right now. 
Doctors haven't said anything yet.

I had some brown spotting around 5 weeks. For no apparent reason. I'm currently 9 weeks and haven't had any more sense. Spotting can be normal.

Brown spotting is normal in early pregnancy its old blood I honestly wouldn't be too concerned, doesn't sound like a ectopic x

I had one last fall.
I got a very clear positive test and almost immediately was spotting old (brown) blood. Not a lot - not even enough for a pad. We had a road trip booked for the next ten days, so I went on that and kept spotting, but every so often I had a dull ache on my right side - much less pain than period cramps. By the time we got back, it had been 3 full weeks of spotting except for one 24 hour period.
I took HPTs the whole trip and they got darker the whole time despite the spotting. So I knew something was weird and didn't want to wait for my doctor to make some time to chat and then get bloodwork and wait for the appointment for that so I just went to the ER.
12 hours later it was confirmed I had a 3cm mass in my right tube, and was given the option of drugs to end the pregnancy or removing my tube. The doctor couldn't believe I wasn't doubled over in pain and could walk at all because by then the size was big enough that it should have been a LOT for me, and my HCG was reading between 5 and 6 weeks.
