Paternal family help?! In between feelings

hello everyone so to cut straight to the point I'm a full time student working on my Nursing degree and work full time at a hospital. Dad of my son are not together but work together for the better of our son. He have been incarcerated since last year and things are becoming a bit rough trying to manage my schedule and my son schedule. So, I asked for help from his mother she resides in Maryland. There been a bunch of back and forth with the sister (dad side) and it seems like maryland has some strict guidelines for enrollment of a child. My son is in pre k we tried to do kindahip care but didn't work since grandma has no proof of residency everything is in her daughter name. So, they brought it to my attention if we should go temporary guardianship so she can have documents stating my son is in her care for she can have a easier route for enrolling him to school and having him insured in maryland. I'm not quite sure if I want to do that because I don't want it to but me in the a** later. Not sure if anyone have went through a similar situation and if you can share. I would appreciate it.
