Is 30 weeks too soon to quit work?

Now I know tons of women work up until their due date. I work at one of the busiest airports in the US. I have contact with over 15,000 people a day. I’m standing / moving for 9+ hours and in a pretty stressful environment. Do you think 30 weeks would be too soon to leave work?

no but if you only have a certain amount of weeks off i would wait longer to go on leave so most of your time is with baby! working is a great way to prepare your body for labor, even though it sucks working that long!

Can you change your working hours? Also- have they not carried out a risk assessment for you? Seems excessive for your stage in pregnancy

I mean yeah 30 weeks is early. I went on leave at 37 weeks. Wanted to go up to my due date but needed time to rest. I didn’t go any sooner because I would have been bored at home.

I would see if your work can make accommodations to keep you off your feet more, less direct interaction with people if possible. I would try to work a little longer so you have more time for recovery and bonding with baby afterwards.

As others have said, depends on your maternity leave/FMLA. If you only get so much time off work, that time doesn’t reset once baby is born. So if you take off 10 weeks now, if you’re only allowed 12 weeks of leave (a lot get less), that’s only 2 weeks at home with your baby before you’re expected to return to work (or lose benefits/risk losing your job altogether). I’d stick it out. I worked as an ER nurse with my daughter. 12 hour shifts on my feet, lifting people, pushing beds, doing it all. Everyone is different, but I asked for a note to leave at 39 weeks because it was getting miserable. Went into labor at 38.5 so didn’t have to use it haha. But I’m glad I stuck it out because I lost no time with my daughter.

Back in 2020 when the pandemic began, I took an early maternity leave. I was 32 weeks pregnant. I’m glad I took it early, because I was able to get a lot done and rest a lot. It was very peaceful and stress free towards the end of my pregnancy. I also made those ziploc freezer dinners for when the baby comes. I just throw in the ziploc freezer dinner into the crock pot and call it a day with our newborn and 4 other children. So no it’s not too soon. You do what you feel is right for you.
