Is my baby feeding too much?

So my 12 week old is still feeding every 1-2 hours during the day and barely naps for more that 30 minutes. He’s gaining weight and growing really well. He sleeps for 7 hours straight of a night then feeds and sleeps for another 3 hours. 
I mentioned to my doctor about how much he’s feeding during the day and she suggested I use formula every now and then so I can rest but even then I’ll need to pump to keep my supply up. And I’m aware of how exhausting breastfeeding can be and I want to continue to do it. And I’m aware you can’t over feed a breast fed baby but my doctor has made me question if he’s getting enough from me? 
He’s a very big baby and is weighing 7.8kg currently so I just expected this feeding to be normal for a bigger baby.

That is cluster feeding and your supply is just fine. Don’t even listen to that dr as he/she isn’t educated in breastfeeding at all.

It may be an issue of him snacking instead of getting a full 3oz feed. And perhaps your reading him being overtired as being hungry. At 12 weeks cluster feeding should mostly be behind you, and babe should be able to go at least 2 hours without feeding. The good thing about the long stretches at night is that it’s an indicator that he is getting enough calories throughout the daytime hours.

In literally the exact same situation but she’s 11wks! 
I end up feeding her more to try & get her to sleep which makes me feel like she’s on the boob every hour. She sleeps amazing at night, usually only wakes up once ( with the exception of tonight😓)

No baby is not eating "too much" it is normal behaviour.

If baby is gaining weight and having enough wet and dirty diapers, then he’s getting enough. Does baby fall asleep at the breast?

It seems to me that your dr just suggested formula now and then for you to get a break, not related to your baby’s weight.
And sounds like cluster feeding as commented already, which is normal and exhausting - hang in there!
