Dust mites
So my 4 month old has been struggling with eczema since he was 8 weeks old, I've been doing everything that doctors have recommended, but it started to get infected and weeping.
His been on a topical cream for a week, it helped till his course was over and it came back overnight, just as bad, then he was put on oral antibiotics (which taste absolutely nasty BTW, poor baby) and topical cream (topical cream says it shouldnt be used for over a week but his been on it for 3 weeks in total), now today was the first day off both of those things and i can see it coming back again, it's like a cycle, I just KNOW it will be just as bad probably by tomorrow morning.
So I've been reading up on it for like the 100th time and came across an article that mentions dust mites, how they breed in dust in dark damp places, like mattresses, bedding, carpeting, fabric sofas etc. And how these mites can cause allergies like eczema and potentially infect it. I find it interesting how doctors don't think about external factors that would affect eczema, just how to treat it.
So that made me realise that my bedroom is very humid on the nights (he sleeps in our room), and probably dusty under the beds (we keep alot of stuff under it packed in boxes so don't get much time to clean under there).
Tomorrow I'm planning on doing a full clean of the bedroom, declutter under the bed, etc. Also going to buy some dust mite spray and ordering some anti allergy bedding like mattress protectors and anti allergy pillows, I've also got a small dehumidifier and put the heating in our room lower.
But I don't know what to do about my living room, we have a carpet and a rug, and a fabric sofa which cushions I regularly use to lie my son down on, what do I do about them?
Plus I have a cat who's was originally my neighbours so I knew he was an outdoor cat, so he still is an outdoor cat, could he be one of the problems too?
I really hope im right and I finally fix this problem my son is having, I can't bear to see him this way wanting to rip his skin off and always needing to pat it dry becayse of the infections.
I always thought we were clean, minimalistic and clean regularly, change bed sheets even twice a week, but this has made me feel so disgusting.
Any advice would be appreciated 🤞🏻
